As the World Cup moves along to its final stages, we’ve updated our TOP 5 impactful moments of the 2022 World Cup, with data from Matchday 2 of the group stage, to the Last 16 matches.
Once again, it’s a goal from Portugal that takes the top spot. Gonçalo Ramos’s first goal in the Last 16-round match against Switzerland racked up a 1783 Emotional Impact Score (EIS), topping the previous high-scored moment of the tournament. Portugal’s second goal in their opening match against Ghana scored 1782 EIS points.
As expected, matches from the Last 16-round fill up our Top 5 moments, with the two first goals of England against Senegal taking the two next spots on our ranking. The only non-goal moment on the Top 5 list was a goal opportunity for the USMNT in their game against the Netherlands. A few moments after having reduced their disadvantage in the match, a quick counter-attack almost provided the USA with the much-needed goal to draw level.
The Top 5 is completed with Argentina’s second goal in Matchday 2 against Mexico. After surprisingly losing the first match against Saudi Arabia, the Albicelest needed to win against Mexico. In a tough game, the second Argentinian goal scored highly amongst the viewers.
We are now in the final stages of the World Cup, where the stakes are bigger, and the emotions rising even higher. As we followed the path to see who will be crowned the new World Champions, we’ll continue to measure the emotional impact of the games and how they engage the fans at home.
